From Earrings to Heirlooms
The Story
One of our clients came to us with her mother’s antique blue topaz earrings. The teardrop-shaped stones were beautiful and in excellent condition, but the earrings were no longer being worn.
She wanted to help her mother transform them into something special that could be given to her two granddaughters for Christmas.
As we talked through different possibilities, we considered making rings, but the conversation naturally led us to pendants. A necklace felt more versatile for two young women and allowed each granddaughter to receive an identical keepsake.
To give the pendants a fresh, contemporary look, the topazes were reset in 14K yellow gold with an offset diamond accent. The design honored the history of the original earrings while creating jewelry that reflected the style of a new generation.
When Christmas arrived, each granddaughter received far more than a necklace. They received a treasured family heirloom with a new story to tell.
One of the things we love most about redesigning inherited jewelry is helping families preserve the memories while creating pieces that will actually be worn and loved.
