Antique Buttons. Extraordinary Earrings.

Some people come to us with a ring. Others arrive with a gemstone.

This client arrived with two antique ceramic buttons she had fallen in love with years earlier.

An artist at heart, she had purchased the buttons knowing they were special but had never quite figured out what they should become. Later, she selected gemstones that perfectly complemented the colors of the ceramic pieces and even sketched a few design ideas before meeting with us.

The challenge wasn’t simply creating earrings.

The ceramic buttons, gemstones and gold all had to be carefully balanced so the earrings would hang beautifully without feeling heavy or tipping forward when worn.

Working through several CAD iterations, we explored different possibilities before arriving at a graceful top-and-bottom design. Each ceramic button and gemstone was bezel set in 14K yellow gold, giving the antique pieces a finished frame while preserving their unique character.

The result was a pair of earrings unlike anything that could ever be purchased in a jewelry store.
