Two Birthstones, Two Very Different Personalities
One of the things I enjoy most about owning Miagemma is introducing clients to gemstones they may not know much about. August gives me the perfect opportunity because it celebrates not one—but two beautiful birthstones.
Most people recognize peridot immediately. Its fresh green color reminds me of late summer gardens and sunshine, and it’s a gemstone that has been admired for centuries. Peridot has long been associated with happiness, good fortune, and new beginnings.
Then there’s spinel—one of jewelry’s best-kept secrets. Spinel comes in an amazing range of colors, including vibrant reds, rich pinks, lavender, blue, gray, and even black. For many years, some famous “rubies” in royal collections were actually believed to be rubies until gemologists discovered they were spinels! But what I love most is the sparkle of spinel. With a high refractive index, spinel lights up more than many stones.
